PreVent™ Attenuated Weather Louvres
Is This The Right Solution For Your Acoustic Needs?
Acoustical Control Engineers’ PreVent Acoustic Louvres provide some attenuation and airflow together with weather protection. Where higher levels of attenuation are required, or aerodynamic resistance has to be minimised (e.g. for greater airflow requirements). PreVent Attenuated Weather Louvres are the best solution instead.
Made Strong, Made Well
PreVent Attenuated Weather Louvres incorporate optimised SilenZone Attenuators designed to provide the required attenuation within the permissible aerodynamic resistance; this combination also minimises the size of the aperture for the required airflow rate. In many cases PreVent BirdMesh is fitted to the weather louvre, with a plenum separating this from the attenuator, to minimize the system’s aerodynamic resistance.
Using a SilenZone Attenuator instead of an acoustic louvre to achieve the required attenuation provides far greater configuration flexibility and enables better performance. The attenuator can also be designed to match the required attenuation spectrum, avoiding potential problems with Spectral Prominence which can occur when the attenuation spectrum is relatively fixed.
The internal splitters and side linings are usually constructed from pre-galvanised sheet steel channel frames with perforated pre-galvanised steel facings for maximum durability. For specific applications, we can use different materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, GRP or plastic, where appropriate.
The perforated metal facing and acoustically transparent scrim, (or Melinex for some applications), protect the acoustically absorptive infill from mechanical damage and prevent fibre migration. The infill is chemically inert, non-hygroscopic, vermin-proof, and rot-proof to prevent organic growth.
In addition to self-colour surface finishes, attenuators can be painted (wet or powder coated) or can incorporate a plastisol coating from a standard colour range.

- Duct systems for plant noise or cross-talk prevention
- Plant such as generators, compressors, refrigeration and air conditioning, fans, blowers, cooling towers and chillers
- Plantrooms, enclosures, containers and canopies
Features
- Pre-galvanised perforated metal facings plus scrim inter-layer protect the infill from mechanical damage and prevent fibre migration
- Comprehensive configuration range and extensive test data ensure the optimum selection to best match your requirements
- Aerodynamic fairings can minimise aerodynamic resistance
- Different materials available for hazardous or hostile environments
PreVent™ Acoustic Louvres
Is This The Solution For You?
Acoustical Control Engineers’ PreVent Acoustic Louvres are an attractive way to provide airflow and noise control through a weather resistant aperture into or out of a building. They can be used as visual and acoustic screens, or even purely as design features. PreVent Acoustic Louvres can also be used as Louvred Doors for improved security, airflow and noise control where wall space is limited.
Applications
- Plantrooms & plant enclosures/ containers
- Duct or plant connections to atmosphere
- Visual/ aesthetic screens
- Design features for buildings
Where no attenuation is required, PreVent Weather Louvres also provide attractive weather protection and impose significantly lower resistance to airflow.
Where there is a need to keep birds or other creatures out, use an appropriate BirdMesh or VerminMesh screen to maintain the louvre’s aerodynamic performance.
Made Strong, Made Well
The configuration of an acoustic louvre controls its attenuation and airflow performance. Greater blade thickness provides better low frequency attenuation but increases aerodynamic resistance; larger blade spacing reduces resistance but lowers attenuation performance. Chevron (double banked) configuration provides significantly greater attenuation, but at the cost of much greater aerodynamic resistance. As a compromise, extended depth acoustic louvres provide enhanced attenuation but with less additional resistance.
In some cases, such as obstructed spaces or non-rectangular apertures, a conventional rectangular acoustic louvre may be unsuitable, in which case a PreVent Acoustic Louvre can suit the specific shape requirements.
PreVent Acoustic Louvres are individually manufactured to match the location they will be installed.

PreVent™ VerminMesh
Is This The Acoustic Solution For You?
PreVent™ VerminMeshes are engineered for optimum louvre performance. We can help you select the optimal mesh to block out pests without compromising airflow.
Made Strong Made Well
Inefficient louvres can have up to seven times the resistance of PreVent Weather Louvres. A key factor in this is that PreVent Vermin Mesh can provide almost double the free area of less efficient meshes or expanded perforated metal.
Applications
Acoustical Control Engineers’ PreVent range of louvres are designed for optimal performance and minimal aerodynamic resistance no matter the creatures you need to keep out.
VerminMesh keeps out vermin such as mice, and also works to keep birds out.
PreVent BirdMesh 25mm pitch: blocks indigenous British birds out without decreasing airflow. It has a free area of approximately 88%.
PreVent MouseMesh 6mm pitch is smaller, reducing the free area to approximately 72% to prevent against mice.
InsectMesh configuration and material should be chosen carefully to meet the specific performance requirements.
PreVent™ Weather Louvres
Is This The Right Solution For You?
Acoustical Control Engineers’ PreVent Weather Louvres have been refined over the last 42 years to efficiently and attractively minimize airflow resistance to provide airflow into or out of a building and protect against the elements. Adaptable to specific shape requirements, they can be used as visual screens, as design features, or as Louvred Doors to provide security and airflow where wall space is limited. PreVent Weather Louvres can also been used as a sunscreen, to reduce the heat load on refrigeration condensers without adding resistance to the high airflow rate or compromising efficiency.
Made Strong, Made Well
PreVent Weather Louvres can be virtually any shape. They are manufactured individually to match the location where they will be installed. As part of the design process a parametric 3D model is made, from which all of the component parts can be transferred directly to the Plasma Cutter ensuring that every part precisely fits the required louvre shape.
Applications
PreVent Attenuated Weather Louvres provide the same functions as regular louvres, while also controlling noise.
PreVent 2Way Weather Louvres achieve maximum airflow, minimal recirculation and optimum weather resistance when warm air is being discharged from the same aperture through which cooler intake air enters.
